Chapter Seven

Grant no longer cared about the idea of humans seeing him, or of Templars coming out of their hiding places, when he spotted two men carrying his brother’s body out of one of the lake cabins that he’d been directed to fly to.

He roared and swooped down before Aris could even have the chance to give the order.

Grant didn’t care. He saw blood on his brother’s chest, and he was going to kill both of those men. He let out a shriek of battle that caused the few humans who were around the lake to either pull out their cameras or flee for their lives.

Grant roared as he swooped in, going for the Templar first, who immediately dropped Fraser to the ground. Thank God he’d only been dragging the man by the shoulders, otherwise Fraser could have been seriously hurt.

If he wasn’t already dead.

Grant didn’t care if there were people watching him, or if this would cause a panic or a riot against dragons. He let his teeth come down on the Templar’s head and bit down hard until he heard a crunch.

The Templar let out half a shriek, but then died too fast before that sound could do more than annoy Grant.

He didn’t know who the man was, if he had friends or a family who were going to come after Grant to avenge the man’s death, and he didn’t care either. Let them all come for him. He’d kill them all for daring to think they could take his brother away from him.

Grant spat the head out of his mouth and didn’t bother to watch as the body fell lifelessly to the ground.

“Grant.”

Fraser’s hand on his talon had him turning around to stare down at the man. Fraser was pale, and he had more wounds and scars on him than Grant had originally thought.

He’d been shot in the chest. Multiple times. Only his strength and the presence of some of his scales had saved him, but he very well could still be dying.

Grant shifted into his human shape, and got down to his knees next to his brother. “Don’t move, don’t move. We have you.”

Aris, Lennox, and Roman landed. Aris glared briefly at Grant before he saw the shape that Fraser was in. His large eyes widened.

Clearly, Fraser had been in a fight for his life. He had not only the gunshots on his chest, but there were defensive wounds on his hands, and a few slashes on his face and arms. Someone had ganged up on him. One Templar couldn’t do this against a dragon warrior.

How long had he been fighting inside of that house?

“We need to get him to Kristoff,” Grant said, and he immediately started to pull at his brother’s shoulders, trying to get him to his feet so he could put him onto the back of one of the guys. They could fly him back.

If only Fraser would stop fighting him.

“Mate, my mate,” he said, slurring his words.

“What did he say?” Roman asked, stepping forward.
